Mud from a construction site has been left on Robin Hood Road in Elsenham, with debris visible up the road, across the roundabouts and continuing along the High Street towards the village school.

The affected route is used daily by motorists, pedestrians and families travelling to and from the school. Mud on the carriageway can reduce vehicle grip and create additional cleaning requirements, particularly during wet weather.

A road sweeper was operating at the site when the issue was observed. However, it appeared to travel only as far as the roundabout before returning down Robin Hood Road, rather than continuing along the wider affected section of highway where mud remained on the road surface.

Dust has also been reported on nearby Rush Lane, where several parked cars were seen with a noticeable coating. It is not known whether the dust originated solely from the construction site or whether other factors contributed.

A resident also raised concerns about the speed of lorries travelling along Robin Hood Road from the construction site. The resident said the route is regularly used by children and parents during the school run and questioned whether vehicle speeds were appropriate for the area. The Elsenham Herald has not independently verified the speed of vehicles using the route.

Construction sites are generally expected to take reasonable measures to prevent mud and debris from being carried onto the public highway. Road sweeping is commonly used to reduce the impact, particularly where heavy goods vehicles enter and leave a site.

It is not currently known whether the site operator has been notified of the extent of the mud and dust beyond the immediate site entrance, or whether any further cleaning is planned. The Elsenham Herald has approached the site operator for comment.

The situation remained visible at the time of observation. It is not yet known whether additional road sweeping or other measures will be carried out to remove the remaining mud and dust from the affected roads.
